A large, treelike cactus to 7 m tall with a candelabra-like crown of slender, ridged, moderately armed branches to about 15 cm in diameter. The scented flowers open at night and are followed by round, greenish to reddish fruits with intensely purplish pink, edible flesh. Stenocereus queretaroensis is native to central Mexico where it grows in dry shrubland and dry deciduous forest to 1800 m. In cultivation it adapts well to dry tropical and warm temperate climates in USDA Zones 9 and above. In Mexico it is cultivated for its tasty fruits that impress with stunning and variable colors.
