Oxalidales

The Oxalidales are a diverse order of flowering plants, distributed in tropical and temperate regions. They include vines, shrubs and trees and most of them share some common characteristics: they develop compound leaves and seeds are nestled in arils palatable to animals, making seed dispersal quite easy. The Oxalidaceae family contains some popular edible species, such as bilimbi and starfruit. Some members of the Elaeocarpaceae family are commercially raised as timber trees.
