Solanales

The Solanales are an order of flowering plants comprised of five families, two of which are of great economic importance: the Solanaceae or the potato family and the Convolvulaceae or morning glory family. The Solanaceae include important edible plants, such as potatoes, tomatoes, tree tomatoes and tomatillos, bell peppers and eggplants, as well very popular ornamental species, such as the petunias, angel’s trumpets and tobacco plants. In the Convolvulaceae family, the most notable genus is Ipomea, which includes the edible species Ipomea batatas (sweet potato) and many ornamental vines.
