This large, rare Aloe in known only from the top of rocky hills in Angolas Bié district at 1800 m. It forms a thick, usually solitary, upright trunk to 5 m tall which holds a dense crown of green leaves with reddish brown teeth along the margins. The branched, compact inflorescence has orange-scarlet flowers. Aloe rupicola makes a nice ornamental but is as rare in cultivation as it is in the wild.
