A smallish, shrubby pine to 10 m tall, with a low, rounded, spreading crown that boasts highly attractive bluish-green, needle-like foliage. Native to the mountains of southern Mexico, it is found in dry woodlands between 2100 and 2800 m in Puebla, Tlaxcala and Veracruz. It is endangered in habitatt and rarely seen in cultivation but makes a great ornamental, particularly for dry temperate regions, taking severe freezes and drought. USDA hardiness Zone 8. The seeds are edible but rather small.
