The Celastrales are a small order of flowering plants comprised of three families: Celastraceae, Parnassiaceae and Lepidobotryaceae. Many species in the Celastraceae or the bittersweet family grow in tropical regions and they secrete latex. The family Parnassiaceae contains one of the smallest plants in the world, Lepuropetalon spathulatum which reaches only 2 cm in height.
