Asparagus densiflorus is a small, semi-woody plant with fern-like shoots, native to coastal dunes, rocky outcrops or woodlands from the southeastern Cape in South Africa north to southern Mozambique. The cultivar Meyersii forms upright or arching, compact, cat tail-like shoots with fine, needle-like foliage. The tiny flowers are followed by attractive, bright red berries. It adapts well to a wide variety of situations in warm temperate and tropical climates in USDA Zones 9 to 11 and also makes an excellent house plant. This cultivar is also often seen in the nursery trade as Asparagus meyeri, A. densiflorus Meyeri, Meyers, Myers or Myersii. In some countries, Asparagus densiflorus is considered an invasive weed.
