Ranging from Texas all the way north into the Canadian states of Alberta and Saskatchewan, this low growing species with stiff, narrow, gray-green leaves is undoubtedly the hardiest of all Yuccas, surviving arctic temperatures down to about -40°C (-40°F).

Seeds from this species ...

...easy to germinate and need up to 1 month to sprout.
Planted about a dozen seeds in a sealed terrarium with moist peat moss. All but a couple germinated within two weeks. Seem pretty easy.

...easy to germinate and need up to 1 month to sprout.
Surface sowed these seeds in a commercial cactus mix, covered and put on top of a warm cupboard. Germination rate was about 50%, but only took 10 days, left the rest for a couple of weeks with minimal success. Lost a couple of seedlings to damping off, but the 3 (out of 10 seeds) survivors are donig really well, and growing quickly.
