A wild, strongly climbing, deciduous grapevine with thick, soft leaves and many small clusters of deep blue, edible fruits that have gelatinous flesh with a spicy flavor. It is a robust grower that does well even in adverse conditions. The fruits are used to make jellies or dried, the leaves to wrap food and the young shoots can be eaten raw or cooked. Vitis mustangensis adapts well to cultivation in most temperate and warm temperate climates.
