An elegant and slender, small to medium size tree, up to 15 m (50 ft.) tall, native to Eastern and southern Africa, where it generally grows on rocky terrain in woodlands and ravines, at elevations up to 5100 ft (1800 m). It forms a trunk covered by light gray to brownish bark and has lanceolate leaves and clusters of star-shaped, fragrant, greenish yellow flowers, followed by spherical, light yellow fruits, which contain shiny orange to reddish seeds. It should adapt well in a variety of tropical and frost-free warm-temperate climates. The roots and bark of Turraea floribunda have a variety of applications in traditional medicine.
