Tieghemopanax pancheri (= Polyscias pancheri)
The family Araliaceae is full of amazing surprises in New Caledonia. The genus Tieghemopanax is found mainly in New Caledonia and is closely related to Pseudopanax of New Zealand. Its species are now usually included in the genus Polyscias as sect. Tieghemopanax. T. pancheri is a dainty, palmlike shrub that forms a slender, usually unbranched stem topped by a small crown of pinnate leaves with broad, dark green leaflets. In habitat, the plants grow in full sunlight in areas with ample rainfall, conditions quite easy to duplicate under cultivation. It will do well in both warm temperate and tropical climates. A very exotic and yet little known plant.
