Elephant Rope Tree
A medium-sized, sparsely branched, dry deciduous tree with large, lobed leaves to 40 cm long and panicles of small, bell-shaped, yellow flowers followed by hairy, reddish seed pods. It is widely distributed from the Himalayas to Southeast Asia. Various parts of the plant are used in traditional medicine for their diuretic, cooling and aphrodisiac properties. Sterculia villosa also makes an impressive, fast growing ornamental tree.
