Rhus chinensis (= R. semialata)
A small, deciduous tree to about 10 m tall with thick, sparsely divided branches, pinnate leaves and showy clusters of small, white flowers. Rhus chinensis is native to disturbed or secondary forests to 2800 m from the Himalayas to Japan and Indonesia. In cultivation it is best suited to temperate climates in USDA Zones 7 to 11. Before sowing, immerse the seeds in hot water, then soak for a day.
