Rhododendron dalhousieae var. dalhousieae
A modest, open, sparsely branching shrub to 3 m tall with large, leathery, ribbed, dark green leaves and most amazing, very large, bell-shaped flowers that are creamy white to yellowish inside and fragrant. Rhododendron dalhousieae is native to mixed forests in the eastern Himalayas between 1500 and 2700 m, where it often grows as an epiphyte on larger trees or on cliff faces and rocky outcrops. It makes a stunning ornamental for temperate and warm temperate climates in USDA Zones 9 and above.
