Prunus domestica 'Tricolor'
A smallish, spreading tree with white flowers in early sping followed by masses of edible, oval, fruits that are slightly waxy and colored with patches of red, purple and orange. They are intensely plum-flavored with hints of elderberry and have a thick and sour. Best for jams, compotes, cakes, sauces and chutneys. In Germany, a sweet liqueur is made from the fruits and a plum flavored spirit distilled from them. This type of plum is widely distributed and popular in Europe. Cultivars will come true from seed with some variation in fruit quality.
