This is one of the two famous 'red crownshaft' palms of the Inca Trail
in southern Ecuador though in fact it has a very wide range throughout
islands of the Caribbean, Central America and down as far as Bolivia.
It is rather variable, and the colour of the crownshaft may vary from
green through reddish to purple black. It grows at elevations of up to
3000m in the Andes Mountains, so should at least exhibit some tolerance
of cool, if not particularly cold, conditions. The seeds we offer here
come from high altitude in Colombia and exhibit excellent colouration.
Seeds are shipped moist to ensure viability.
