Polygala lancifolia (= P. virgata)
A fast growing, upright shrub, up to 2 m (6 ft.) tall, native to tropical and eastern Africa, where it grows on lower elevation slopes and along river banks and forest margins. It presents narrow, elongated, velvety leaves, and pea-like, pink-purple flowers. It grows well in tropical and warm temperate climates and once established, it will tolerate some drought and some frost. Traditionally, the leaves of Polygala lancifolia were used medicinally, as blood purifiers.
