Quite variable in size, this plant can be anything between a large shrub to a large tree to 30 m tall. It has leathery, dark glossy green, blunt-tipped leaves and greenish white, sweetly scented flowers followed by little capsules that reveal sticky, orange fruits popular with birds. Its natural distribution stretches from southern to eastern Africa to Arabia and India. It makes a wonderful ornamental and is easily grown from seed. I adapts to a wide range of situations and climates in USDA Zones 9 and above and can be pruned into shape as desired.
