Indian Long Pepper
A climbing shrub to about 3 m tall with heart-shaped leaves and catkin-like infructescences that hold many, closely spaced, tiny fruits. The fruits are used as a spice, unripe and dried and similar to black pepper in taste, or as a condiment. Piper longum is widely distributed in rainforests from India to Indochina to 800 m and is best suited to cultivation in the tropics.
