Johann's Pine, Dwarf Piñon
A smallish, shrubby pine that rarely reaches more than 3 m (10 ft.) tall, with a low, rounded, spreading crown that boasts highly attractive bluish green foliage. Native to the mountains of Mexico, it is found in arid areas up to 2800 m (9200 ft.). It is rarely seen in cultivation but makes a great ornamental, particularly for dry temperate regions, taking severe freezes and drought. USDA hardiness zone 8. The seeds are edible but rather small.
