Ground Cherry, Strawberry Tomato
A small, shrubby annual to about 90 cm, tall, similar to the popular Inca Berry, Physalis peruviana. It has oval, heart shaped leaves and yellow flowers with brown markings, followed by small, orange fruits that are covered by papery husks. The fruit has a pleasant flavor, reminiscent of pineapple, and can be eaten raw, dried or prepared in pies or preserves. Physalis pruinosa adapts well in cultivation and prefers well-drained soils and a sunny spot in the garden.
