Pachypodium rutenbergianum var. meridionale
A dry deciduous, succulent, small tree to 5 m (16 ft.) or more tall, native to dry areas in western Madagascar. The trunk is thick, swollen, and smooth with age, and each of the sparsely spiny branches holds a dense, palmlike tuft of long, simple leaves. The large, pinkish white flowers appear during the dry season when the plant is leafless. A stunning plant for cultivation in the drier tropics.
