Musa campestris var. sarawakensis
Kuching Swamp Banana
This highly ornamental variety of Musa campestris grows in westernmost Sarawak on the island of Borneo. It forms larger clusters of shiny, yellowish-purple, dark-striped pseudostems to 1.2 m (4 ft.) tall. The upright inflorescence displays beautiful purple bracts followed by small, very pale green to ivory fruit. Like all Musa campestris varieties, it has great potential as an ornamental for the tropics as well as a cut flower.
