Lansium domesticum (Wild Form)
Button or Marble Langsat
The Button or Marble Langsat is a rare, wild form of the common langsat that is not cultivated but only found in the rainforests of Borneo. The fruit is smaller than the ordinary langsat, with about 20 to 30 fruits per stalk. It is almost completely round and marble-sized. Unlike the normal langsat, which is peeled to expose the fruit segments for eating, the skinĘ of the marble langsat is slightly more leathery. It is eaten by squeezing the fruit to release the juice into the mouth from the top end of the fruit. The taste of the juice together with some of the soft flesh is really refreshing and sweet, with a hint of acidity. Smaller sized fruits are seedless while bigger ones have only one seed. It is the juiciest among all the varieties of langsat and its fruiting season is also later than that of regular langsat.
