The Huon Pine is considered one of the longest living trees in the world and is native only to Tasmania, where it grows in riverine habitats and wet mountain forests. It is a large tree that can reach to over 30 m in tall and forms a straight trunk up to 2 m in diameter, covered with grayish-brown bark and topped by a pyramidal crown with small scale-like foliage. Lagarostrobos franklinii is highly appreciated as a source of essential oil used in the cosmetic industry. Its highly prized, hard, durable, fragrant wood, is used for furniture and carving. A wonderful ornamental for humid, temperate climates in USDA zones 8 to 10.
