Juniperus excelsa subsp. polycarpos
A large shrub or tree to about 25 m (82 ft.) tall, subspecies polycarpos is found from eastern Turkey and the Caucasus eastwards to the Tian Shan, Kirgistan, northen India and Pakistan, in dry areas on poor, rocky soils, to an altitude of as much as 3800 m (12500 ft.). It is very hardy to cold and drought. Its wood is extremely durable but the tree is rather slow growing.
