A rare, little-known herbaceous, perennial shrub to 1.5 m tall with simple leaves and lovely, bell-shaped green and purplish blue flowers that are followed by edible, sweet, orange berries. Jaltomata is closely related to the genus Solanum and shares many of its features. It also has numerous aspects of Physalis. Jaltomata incahuasina is known only from a small area in northwestern Peru between 2500 and 3600 m. In cultivaton it is best adapted to cool temperate climates but can also be grown as an annual for its fruits.
