A magnificent, medium-sized Heliconia with pendent, spiraling inflorescences that have reddish-pink bracts with dark purple keels, covered with a thin, waxy white hue. The leaves have maroon midribs and are whitish below. The yellow fruits and seeds are unusually large for a Heliconia. Heliconia griggsiana is native to montane and cloud forests in Colombia and Ecuador between 800 and 2200 m and is one of the more cool tolerant Heliconia that will thrive in warm temperate climates.
