This stunning palm is best known for the small population along the famous
Inca Trail in southern Ecuador, featured in many articles in various palm
society magazines. It's not a large palm, maybe to 6 or 7m with a slim,
ringed trunk, the crown shaft is cherry red to marroon, and the leaf segments
are of varying widths giving an altogether unusual appearance. Tolerates
cool and moist conditions, needs a good rich soil and medium light.
