Wild Pride of India
A beautiful evergreen shrub or small tree to 6 m tall with small, very dark, glossy green leaves. The leaves are coppery when young and turn beautifully red before they fall. The small, white flowers are held in large clusters at the end of the branches and are followed by small, reddish brown to black fruits. Galpinia transvaalica is native to woodland and thickets in South Africa and Swaziland. In cultivation it does well in tropical and warm temperate climates in USDA Zones 10 and above.
