Durio sp. (Small Spiney)
This most incredible durian was discovered in the lowlands of central Sarawak, collected in the forest by an Iban gentleman who said that it grew at the base of a tree and not in the branches above, which would make it a truly unique find. The small fruits are no bigger than a navel orange, they have a very thick rind that encases a beautiful aril of creamy yellow color and of a delightful aroma and taste. This tree has incredible potential for the specialty fruit market, above all for it’s unique appearance and small size. No one of several durian connoisseurs who were shown the fruit knew what they were.
