Giant Spear Lily
This very large, flax-like plant is native to eastern Australia, on the border between New South Wales and Queensland, where it grows on rocky outcrops and cliffs in humid montane heath forest. It forms a cluster of giant rosettes of sword-like, bright green leaves to 3 m (10 ft.) tall and 20 cm (8 in.) wide. The tall flower spike stands well above the leaves and carries a cluster of large red flowers at the tip. Even though threatened in habitat, it adapts readily and is fairly popular in cultivation and a very easy to grow plant for warm temperate climates.
