Diospyros texanaTexas Persimmon A well-shaped shrub or small tree, native to southern Texas and northeastern Mexico where it grows in scrubland on rocky soils. It has smooth, light, peeling bark, small, hard leaves and small, urn shaped white flowers followed by edible, fleshy, sweet, black fruits about the size of a small plum. The fruits are popular for making puddings, custards and jellies and the Texas Persimmon is also an excellent ornamental for temperate and warm temperate climates in USDA Zones 7 to 9. |
