Blume's Tree Fern
A stunning tree fern with a trunk to about 6 m (20 ft.) tall and broad, bi- or tripinnate fronds to about 2 m (7 ft.) long with leafstalks and bases densely covered in thick reddish hairs, making for a gorgeous show plant. It is not uncommon on ridges and in steep valleys in montane rain and cloud forests between 1500 and 2500 m (4900 and 8200 ft.) from Sumatra and Java to New Guinea and the Philippines. A very adaptable species, it does well in a wide range of climates, from hot tropical to warm temperate and even tolerates an occasional light freeze with minor damage. It likes bright light and can grow in full sun in humid climates.
