Dasylirion leiophyllum Smooth Sotol, Desert Candle A moderately-sized species from southern Texas, New Mexico and Chihuahua, Mexico, where it is found at high altitude between 1300 and 1700 m (4200 and 5500 ft.). It has a short trunk that holds a dense rosette of gracefully recurving, glossy green leaves with thorny edges. It is extremely tolerant of drought, heat, cold and soil type but must have a well-drained spot in full sun to look its best. |
