A very rare and very pretty palm from Hispaniola and Puerto Rico, where
it is found on moist, alkaline soils near streams. It produces a tall,
solitary, smooth trunk that can reach up to 15 m (49 ft.) tall and holds
a dense, shuttlecock-like crown of elegant, finely pinnate leaves. It
is rarely encountered in cultivation, but has proven to be best suited
to tropical and subtropical climates, and is a fast and rewarding palm
to grow. The tiny seeds are shipped moist to ensure maximum viability.
