Calyptrogyne sp. (Paddys Delight)
This smallish palm native to lowland rainforests in Panama forms a thin trunk topped by a spreading crown of maroon emergent, flat, sparsely and unevenly pinnate leaves with beautiful yellow leaf bases and leaf stalks. The long, unbranched, red inflorescences arch below the crown and hold relatively large black fruits. It would be best suited for the humid tropical garden but is perhaps not yet in cultivation.
