Butia paraguayensis
Dwarf Yatay Palm

An interesting, rare, dwarf Butia, this palm rarely grows to more than 180 cm (6 ft) tall. It has a short, slender trunk and strongly arching, blue-green leaves, with the leaflets held in a V-shape. This dwarf Butia is most useful as an ornamental palm in the temperate and subtropical garden where it will tolerate summer heat and extreme cold. We can now, for the first time, offer commercial quantities of these rare seeds from the Campos of southern Brazil at a VERY LOW PRICE.

...difficult to germinate and need up to 6 months to sprout.
i haven't germinted these seeds, but since it is a temperate palm I think it would prefer lower humidity and cooler temperatures. This is the case with jubaea chilensis, parajubaea, and butia capita.

...very difficult to germinate and need up to 6 months to sprout.
Erratic sprouter, a bit challenging to germinate ; sown early July at 40°C in rich compost the first seed germinated after just 3.5-4 months ; others still dormants after 6 months. Keeping high temperatures and high levels of humidity should help a bit.

They do not necessarily describe the most appropriate methods, nor are they necessarily valid for all seeds or plants of this species. Germination and plant cultivation success depends on many different factors; nevertheless, these experiences will hopefully aid you in your effort to get the best germination results from our seeds and the best growth results from your plants.
