This palm has been newly discovered in rainforest on Mt. Bouo in the Mt. Koghi massif in southeastern New Caledonia. It sports a slender, ringed trunk to about 18 m (60 ft.) tall, topped by a short crownshaft that holds a spreading crown of flat, pinnate leaves with stiff, glossy green, leathery leaflets. The emerging leaf has a beautiful maroon tinge. Still virtually unknown in cultivation.
