Nicobar Palm

A fast-growing, slender and elegant, pinnate palm from the Nicobar Islands in the Andaman Sea north of Sumatra. One of its most distinctive features is its very tall, pale green crownshaft. The leaves are elegantly arching, giving the crown a shape somewhat reminiscent of the Australian Archontophoenix. Bentinckia prefers a tropical climate and is a beautiful palm for parks and gardens.

Seeds from this species ...

...difficult to germinate and need up to 3 months to sprout.
Germinate in damp moss in damp sphagnum (hanging basket) moss at 30 - 38C in just over 2 months.
