Apodasmia similisJointed Wire Rush, Oioi A highly ornamental plant in the Restionaceae (commonly referred to as Restios) native mainly to coastal marshes and sandy flats throughout New Zealand, including the Chatham Islands. It forms large, upright, grass-like clusters of narrow shoots that turn orange at the end of the season and hold reddish-brown catkin-like inflorescences. It is best suited to sunny, exposed situations in mild, temperate climates and can stand moderate freezes. In New Zealand it is popular for its formal appearance and ease of care in cultivation. It holds up very well in coastal situations and tolerates salty ground. |
