Mountain Aloe, Snake Aloe
A wonderful, medium-sized, usually solitary Aloe that forms a dense rosette of broad, pale green to bluish leaves that are toothed along the edges. The massive, unbranched inflorescence holds many densely set flowers, mostly hidden by green bracts. It is found on rocky slopes in the dry interior of South Africa and in Lesotho between 1000 and 2000 m. Like all Aloe, it is easily propagated from seed and makes a reliable ornamental for warm temperate regions in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 9 to 11.
