Albizia chinensis (= A. stipulata)
A very large, evergreen or dry deciduous tree with a spreading crown of finely pinnate leaves and pretty, powderpuff-like, white flowers in large clusters. It is widely distributed from Pakistan over much of India to Southern China, the Philippines and Indonesia and found in a variety of habitats. Albizia chinensis makes a nice, fast growing ornamental for tropical areas in USDA Zones 10 and above and is widely grown as a shade and street tree, for erosion control, for its light but termite resistant wood and for forage. Seeds should be scarified or immersed in boiling water briefly to break dormancy, then soaked at room temperature for a day.
