Agave salmiana subsp. salmiana
A splendid Agave from central and southern Mexico that forms a large rosette of wide, dark green to gray green leaves. Mature plants can get to 3 m (10 ft.) tall. An outstanding and dramatic plant for drier warm temperate regions that will thrive on regular watering and fertilizing. It can take some drought and light freezes. In Mexico, it is the premier source for the production of Pulque and Mezcal and has recently received additional attention as a superior source of Agave nectar, a natural, low-glycemic sweetener.
