This stunning, large Agave is native to seasonally dry forests and scrubland the Mexican states of Sonora, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Oaxaca, and Puebla to an altitude of 1000 m (3300 ft.). It forms a huge rosette of narrow, rigid, green to bluish green leaves to 2.5 m (8 ft.) long that are sharply toothed along the margins. Old plants can form a short trunk and reach to 3 m (10 ft.) tall and 5 m (16 ft) in diameter. The inflorescence can reach an imposing 9 m (29 ft.) tall.
