Acacia baileyana (Purpurea)
Purple Cootamundra Wattle
A small tree with a spreading crown of finely pinnate, silvery leaves and bright yellow, strongly scented puffball-like flowers. The cultivar "Purpurea" has beautiful purple new foliage. Originally native to New South Wales, Australia, Acacia baileyana is widely grown elsewhere in temperate climates. Seeds should be scarified or immersed in boiling water to break dormancy, then soaked at room temperature for a day.
